Welcome

Central Office - David Reid _Jan 2011

NWTTA educators are passionate about their work with students and are dedicated to helping them succeed.

Educators are life-long learners who participate in regular Professional Development. This PD helps teachers deliver quality programs to students by keeping them up-to-date on best practices and the latest research in education.

Across the NWT, I see teachers engaging students in dynamic lessons and providing a wide-array of authentic learning experiences. Not only do our teachers work with the community and Elders to deliver Aboriginal Language and Culture programming with on-the-land activities, they provide subject integration across the curriculum and develop programs to meet a wide range of student needs and interests.

In addition to lesson planning, marking, writing reports, connecting with parents and supporting students, you’ll also find teachers involved in a number of additional activities like supervision, extra-curricular sports and clubs, local, national and international travel, and homework support outside of class time.

The involvement of parents and families in their children’s education provides a clear message that education is important, and this plays a key role in student success. NWT community members, businesses and organizations also contribute in many ways to this valuable extended network of support.

Students benefit when Home, School and Community work together as partners in education. Thank you for joining students and teachers on this journey.

David Reid, President
Northwest Territories Teachers' Association
