Membership
 
Membership Fees

  • 1.4% of the employee's salary (salary grid placement plus supervisory/administration allowances, language allowances and professional allowance) 
  • Membership fees are changed by motion at the Annual Meeting of Central Councilors (AMCC)

NWTTA Membership  - New Database System

  • Helps the NWTTA keep members informed
  • Enables the NWTTA to provide members with cost-effective personalized membership cards
  • Is your NWTTA membership registered? If not - CLICK HERE.
    • Here's how to register your membership:
      1. Choose NWTTA Membership from the drop-down menu
      2. Click Continue
      3. Complete the information fields.
  • If you registered your membership once, have you renewed it for the upcoming year? If not - CLICK HERE.
    • Here's how to renew your membership:
      1. Sign into your Member Profile using your personal Username and Password
      2. Click Renew (from here, you'll be redirected to the login page)
      3. Choose NWTTA Membership from the drop-down menu
      4. Click Continue
      5. Next - proceed through the pages and udate your information as needed.

Membership Registration by new members and Renewal by returning members by September 30th of each year ensures:

  • Members receive communication direct from Central Office and/ or Regional Presidents to their email address of choice (from membership@nwtta.nt.ca)
    • This direct communication will be of particular importance during negotiations or when it is vital for the Association to share critical information with members in an expedient manner.
      • Information shared with members in this manners includes, but is not limited to:
        • NWTTA NEWS (6 issues)
        • Central Office Memorandums
        • Information Updates
        • Press Releases
        • Announcements
        • Membership Renewal reminders
  • Members receive professional, personalized, laminated membership cards
    • Note: Registration in the database affords the Association a cost-effective way to print cards for registered members.
    • Unregistered members will receive fill-in-the-blank versions of the NWTTA membership cards.

MEMBERS CHOOSING NOT TO REGISTER or RENEW their membership are asked to request emails from membership@nwtta.nt.ca be forwarded to them by their school's Local Receiving Officer to ensure they are not missing important information.

Membership Categories

Active Members

  • Past President who retires immediately following his/her term in office
  • Teacher on leave of absence with or without pay or allowances
  • Persons engaged in teaching or providing instruction in a school, college, institute, university or other educational institution in the Northwest Territories
  • Employees included in the NWTTA Bargaining Units  

Associate Members

  • Retired teachers
  • Unemployed teachers
  • Former teachers and other persons who are interested in education
  • Executive Director of the Association 

Honourary Members

  • Recognized for outstanding contributions to education in the NWT or to the Association
  • Central Council may confer honorary membership in the Association on any person

Life Members

  • Recognized for long term membership of ten (10) years or more and service to the NWTTA at the Local, Regional or Central Executive level
  • Service in an NWTTA capacity shall be verified by the nominator prior to nominating a retiring teacher
    • A retired teacher is defined as those GNWT employees who are eligible for an annuity or those employees of Yellowknife School Boards who are retiring and receiving a pension from the Board

Student Members

  • Students enrolled in full time courses of study leading to basic certification as teachers in the Northwest Territories
  • Student membership fee shall be established by Central Executive
