Teaching in the NWT
The Government of the Northwest Territories employs approximately 500 teachers through its six District Education Councils (DECs). There are two Yellowknife District Education Authorities (DEAs). Yellowknife Catholic School Board (YCS) employs over 100 teachers, while Yellowknife Public School Board (YK #1) employs approximately 190 teachers and educational assistants. It is important to note that the NWTTA is the bargaining agent for all teachers in the NWT. NWTTA members are reminded that the association interprets the collective agreements for all members. Over the next few months, this section will be developed further. Suggestions and comments are welcomed.
